Abstract
The speed with which Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being introduced in the legal systems of various jurisdictions has fundamentally changed the law-making process, adjudication, and enforcement of the law. Predictive police and algorithm-based risk assessment of bail and sentencing, automated analysis of contract terms and virtual courtrooms are only some of the ways AI might bring efficiency and consistency and increase access to justice. Its implementation, however, also attracts questions of serious critical issues concerning transparency, accountability, due process, privacy, and human rights.
