NCPCR is pleading Delhi High Court to remove a tweet posted by Alt News Co-founder Md. Zubair


18th September 2021: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has pleaded Delhi High Court to remove a tweet posted by Alt News Co-founder Mohammad Zubair as Twitter has denied to co-operate in this matter. An FIR was filed by NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo against him in 2020 as he posted a tweet in which a minor girl was seen whom he had allegedly threatened and also her face was blurred out.

Following this case, it has come to know that NCPCR had sought for more information from Twitter but Twitter did not provide the necessary information at all and refused to co-operate with the commission and Delhi Police.

Consequently, NCPCR has filed case against Twitter under Section 175 of the Indian Penal Code for not co-operating in this matter with the authorities even after repeatedly giving reminders.



The NCPCR has stated that the photo regarding which all the case is, it is violative in nature. The tweet in question is violative of various laws such as the Indian Penal Code, POCSO Act, Juvenile Justice Act and also the Information Technology Act.

“Twitter is not cooperating with the law enforcement agencies and is not following the law of the land by not taking action against the said impugned post,” NCPCR said in its affidavit while seeking Twitter’s impleadment in the case and a direction to remove the post in question.
