August 27, 2021: The WFI had sent a temporary suspension letter to wrestler Vinesh Phogat on account of her behaviour at the Tokyo Olympics. Vinesh who was training with coach Woller Akos had travelled to Tokyo from Hungary and after coming to Tokyo she refused to stay at the Games Village and train with the other Indian team members. On speaking to ANI, WFI President Brijbhushan Sharan Singh said, "We have now forgiven Vinesh, she did wrong but she accepted her fault and as you know we usually scold our child at home so that they obey us. Vinesh is also our child and we welcome her to give trials." The wrestling trials are slated to be held on August 31.
The WFI had earlier served a temporary suspension to Vinesh Phogat over her behaviour at the Tokyo Olympics. The federation was then awaiting a reply from the wrestler. WFI had stated that "yes, a temporary suspension has been given, we are waiting for her reply and then we will decide further course of action". Post her temporary suspension by the wrestler apologized to the body. "She has sent an e-mail, the committee will see her response and it depends whether they are satisfied with it or not. The disciplinary committee will take the call," sources within the WFI told ANI. Grappler Vinesh Phogat's hopes of winning a bronze medal were dashed in the Games as her quarter-final opponent Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus lost in the semi-final of the Tokyo Olympics.
